Akwa Ibom State government on Tuesday May 21, 2024 kick started the distribution of one Million copies of free exercise books and school bags to pupils in public primary schools in the State, stating that the move is part of efforts to improve the quality of education and give opportunities to pupils from all backgrounds in the State.
This is coming few days after free school uniforms, shoes and some pairs of sucks were presented to all pupils of the recently inaugurated model primary schools in Uyo, the State capital.
The Commisionner for Education, Mrs Idongesit Etiebet while commencing the exercise at Christ the king Model school in Uyo, said that Governor Umo Umo Eno’s administration will continue to pay more attention to educational advancement in the state.
Recalling that Governor Eno during the inauguration of model schools in Uyo had flagged off the exercise with 1 million copies of exercise books on Friday May 17, 2024, Etiebet maintained that the Education ministry will ensure that the books are distributed to pupils across the 31 local government areas.
Noting that education for all is the responsibility of all, Etiebet called on parents and Guardians to rise to their responsibilities of ensuring that the uniforms, shoes, sucks, bags and educational materials provided for the pupils are maintained.
Reacting, the Head teacher of Christ the King Model school, Mrs Ukeme Udofia expressed appreciation to Governor Eno for being a promise keeper, maintaining that the modern facilities would enhance effective learning.
Mrs Udofia promised to reciprocate the Governor’s gesture by maintaining the facility and ensuring good grades from pupils.
