Port Harcourt DisCo gets eight additional Band A feeders

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, has upgraded eight feeders of the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution, PHED, Company from Band B to Band A.

The PHED disclosed this in a notice on Friday, saying customers under these feeders will enjoy at least 20 hours of supply daily at N225 per kilowatt-hour.

The feeders are Airport Complex, Circular Road, Greater PH and Refinery Line 2 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

They also include Water Board A and AkamkpA-A in Calabar, Cross River State.

Others are Afaha Ube in Ikot-Ekpene and Oron Road in Uyo, Akwa Ibom.

The DisCo disclosed that the new tariff takes effect immediately for prepaid customers upon vending, and postpaid customers who will find the prorated charges on their May bill.

The PHED said: “Kindly be informed that in line with the directive of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, an additional eight Feeders have been upgraded to Band A. As a result, customers under these feeders will enjoy at least 20 hours of supply daily, at N225/kWh accordingly.”

“This takes effect immediately for prepaid customers upon vending and postpaid customers who will find the prorated charges on their May 2024 bill.

“We are committed to meeting service delivery expectations for all our customers”.

The PUNCH reports that Port Harcourt DisCo now has 51 Band-A Feeders, from 43 initially displayed on the NERC website.

It could be recalled that the NERC on April 3 approved the removal of subsidy of the electricity consumed by Band A customers, raising their tariffs from N68/KWh to N225/kWh.

Nigerians have since rejected the tariff hike, but the Federal Government said it was unavoidable to revive the troubled power sector.
