The management of Ibom Air has thrown its weight behind the malaria elimination campaign of the Akwa Ibom State government as it donated 3000 doses of SP oral and 1000 units of Insecticide-Treated Nets (ITN) to the state Ministry of Health.
Making the donation, George Uriesi, Ibom Air’ Chief Operating Officer said the airline would continue to partner Akwa Ibom Government in the fight against malaria in the state.
Uriesi explained that the target remained pregnant women and children from zero to five years to be protected against malaria.
“The realisation is that it’s not only government alone. The benefit is for everybody. I believe that the token we have presented today will help some people.
“But the most important is that Ibom Air can contribute to the awareness because we need to make people to be aware of what to do.
“We have opportunity that we carry people every day to get to realise that they have things to contribute by keeping the environment clean and what to do when they got infected by Malaria parasite. I think this token will be judiciously used.” The GM said.
The State Commissioner for Health, Augustine Umoh who received the items on behalf of the state government urged other companies operating in the state to join hands with the state government in the campaign towards malaria elimination.
“It is with appreciation and joy in our heart that we receive with a promise that they will be effectively utilised. We will monitor their utilisation and ensure that this confidence by Ibom Air to the Ministry to get this to our people. We will ensure that this confidence will not be broken.
“I enjoin other well meaning companies and other corporate citizens as well other Nigerians to join Ibom Air and add value to the good work of His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno in the healthcare sector,” Umoh said.
Ibom Air, which is wholly owned by the Akwa State government, said the donation was its contributions to mark this year’s World Malaria Day.
