More than 100 expectant mothers from the 11 wards in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area were beneficiaries of the PATCARE EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM. The scheme, a brainchild of the Hon. Dcns Otobong Aaron, is in partnership with the wife of the State Governor, Pst. Patience Umo’s Golden Initiative for All (GIFA) is committed to bringing the state government’s initiatives to the people at the grassroots level.

The council boss, Hon. Dcns. Otobong Aaron has once again demonstrated her unwavering commitment to intentional rural development. Despite the current economic realities, she seized the opportunity to donate cash and Mothercare supplies to expectant mothers while commending the state government for its inspirational leadership.

Her words: “Golden Initiative for All (GIFA) has served as a beacon of inspiration for our endeavours here today. Our Excellencies’ tireless efforts have ignited a spark within our community, and we are committed to carrying forward the torch of empowerment that you have lit.

I also understand how difficult the economy has developed, and it might be pretty hard for these mothers to get basic needs for the new lives they are birthing. So, we thought it expedient to lend our support, which is part of rural development expected of local government leaders. As you go, take care of these supplies while adding value to your lives by farming, selling, or any vocation you deem fit.

The event, which had a theme: A VALUED WOMAN, featured a keynote address by Dr. Mary Udoh, who identified the ideals of a valued woman to include a woman with a sustainable means of livelihood to complement her spouse. She also noted that gone were the days of relegating women to the kitchen, and even as full-time housewives, one should still give “Value” to their lives by engaging in profitable ventures like tailoring, farming, or petty trading around their vicinity.

Goodwill messages describing the chairman’s magnanimous gesture as the first in the LG were received from the representative of Gen Paul Isang (Rtd), Former First Lady, AKS, Mrs. Funmi Nkanga, Former House Member Rt. Hon. Princess Mfon Ekong and GIFA Rep and other dignitaries.

The highlight of the event was the generous donation to parents with twins and other expectant mothers. The items, carefully selected to meet their needs, included large sleeping mats for comfort, delivery boxes with birthing essentials, diapers for the newborns, clothing hangers, sets of baby clothes, outdoor baby mats for playtime, and cash gifts to assist with their immediate needs.
