Gov Eno Commences Free Food Scheme In Akwa Ibom Tomorrow, Tuesday

All is now set for the commencement of the free food programme for the vulnerable population in Akwa Ibom State.

Governor Umo Eno is expected to inaugurate the programme tomorrow Tuesday at the Itam Market, Itam, Itu local government area by 11am.

According to the leadership of state bulk food purchase agency, with the flag-off tomorrow, the food items, namely rice, beans and garri in 5kg bags, are to be available in redemption points at markets across the State through the designated agents.

Beneficiaries are expected to be the vulnerable whose names are on the social register of the State, and they are to get their food vouchers from the personal aides to the Governor in their respective wards in the State before proceeding to redeem their food at absolutely no cost.

The Board of the State’s Bulk Purchasing Agency was inaugurated last Friday with members tasked by the Governor to ensure transparency and accountability as spelt out in the blueprint for the interventionist agency.

The Board has Rt. Hon. Dan Akpan as Chairman, Hon. Unyime Etim, General Manager/Secretary, with Commissioners in the Ministries of Economic Development, Agriculture, Justice and Internal Security as members.

Other members of the committee are; the State Chairman of Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Economic Adviser to the Governor, Dr. Uduakobong Inam, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Market Matters, Akparawa Idorenyin Raphael, Mrs. Affiong Ibanga representing Akwa Ibom State Chamber of Commerce, and Comrade Dominic Abang representing Labour.
