The Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Dr. Ini Adiakpan, recently participated in the 68th session of the Commission on the Status of Women held in New York, United States.
The events which commenced on March 11th and concluded on March 22nd, brought together a diverse delegation of Nigerian women, led by the Honourable Minister of Women Affairs, Barrister Uju Kennedy, under the theme of “Accelerating the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls by addressing poverty and strengthening institutions and financing with a gender perspective,” the session delved into pivotal discussions and dialogues.
One of the focal points of the event was mobilizing financing for gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls with policies and strategies aimed at ending women’s and girls’ poverty were scrutinized, with an emphasis on identifying actionable solutions.
Additionally, there was a spotlight on good practices for fortifying institutions and optimizing financing to foster gender equality and empower women and girls. The session also facilitated a comprehensive review of themes pertaining to social protection systems, access to public services, and sustainable infrastructure, all geared towards advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment.
The event organized by the united Nations was in conjunction with the Commission’s Status of Women’s official session, several organizations, including Naija Worldwide Charities, Global Women Africa Network, New Future Foundation, and Friends of the African Union, presented a parallel framework
This event, themed “Empowering Women-led Businesses, Bridging the Gap in Gender Responsive Financing, ” underscored the critical role of women-led enterprises in driving economic growth and promoting financial inclusivity.
Participants from all walks of life engaged in roundtable discussions and dialogues, exchanging insights and best practices. The culmination of these deliberations led to the presentation of drafts by the Commission on the Status of Women Bureau, reflecting the collective efforts and commitments towards advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment on a global scale.
Dr. Ini Adiakpan’s active involvement in the session exemplifies Nigeria’s dedication to promoting gender parity and fostering an inclusive society where women and girls can thrive.
