Tax Evasion: Enugu Seals ShopRite, SPAR

Enugu State government through Board of Internal Revenue Service, ESBIRS, Tuesday, March 5, 2024, sealed two prominent shopping malls in Enugu, ShopRite and SPAR.

The exercise which took place between 6 am and 7 am in the morning, it was gathered was because they failed to remit their purchase tax.

It was also gathered that the sealed establishments would not be opened until they do the needful.

The Public Relations Officer of the Service, Mr. Nnamdi Eneh disclosed that the defaulters were given demand notice to comply which they neglected to pay.

According to Eneh, for the months of January and February, they did not remit a Kobo to the Revenue Service.

“They were sealed because they failed to pay their purchase tax for the months of January and February.

“They cannot say that they are not aware of the new innovation. We have been announcing it on air,” he said.

Eneh however pointed out that the shops will remain sealed unless they do the needful.
