Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno has inaugurated a Personnel Training Resource Centre, PTRC, for capacity building of officers of the State Command of the Nigerian Immigration Service, NIS.
Speaking during the inauguration, Governor Eno expressed delight at the event and commended the leadership of the Immigration Service for embarking on the project for up-skilling of staff proficiency.
“I consider it a huge honour to be invited to commission this Personnel Training Resource Centre. This is because I personally place premium on continuous training, up-skilling and constant learning for self development, value addition and productivity”.
The Governor who was represented by the Commissioner, Ministry of Labour and Manpower Planning, Elder Aniefiok Nkom, stated the significance of the digital age where organisations are leveraging on technology to automate their operations with the introduction of Artificial Intelligence, (AI), and lauded the Government of Netherlands amongst others, for contributing to the success of the project.
Governor Eno advised the officers to make good use of the facility for their service improvement.
“I urge officers of the Service to see this facility as a tool for the enhancement of their productivity and catalyst for personal development”.
Speaking further, the Governor emphasized that as a border State, Akwa Ibom is conscious of its partnership with Security agencies, particularly the Nigerian Immigration Service, on internal security, border patrol, curbing of human trafficking, control of entry into the state and by extension the nation, among others.
He mentioned that the recent donation of fourteen gunboats to the joint task force by his administration is meant to assist the Nigerian Immigration Service fulfill its mandate in Akwa Ibom State.
Earlier in their separate addresses the Comptroller General of NIS, Mrs. Caroline Wura-Ola Adepoju, represented by the Commandant Training and Development, Mrs. A. G. Umanah, as well as the State Comptroller, CIS Jummai Babson, lauded the initiative of the project and commended the Government of Netherlands for sponsorship of the programme in many states of the federation, including Akwa Ibom.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Information, Comrade Ini Ememobong, who was a special Guest at the occasion, congratulated the State Command of the Nigerian Immigration Service on the successful inauguration of the laudable project geared at improved Immigration management.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Akparawa James Edet, the Commissioner said, the Nigerian Immigration Service has remained a strategic partner not only the Ministry of Information but also the State government hence the presence of the Ministry to grace the occasion and also ensure effective information dissemination.
Goodwill messages were presented by the representatives of Security agencies such as: Commandant of NSCDC, Commandant Mosadoluwa Eluyemi as well from the Expatriate Community, by Chief Atman Saimua.
