Jenkins in his Conceptual Approach to Public Policy espoused that “Public Policy is a set of interrelated decisions taken by a political actor or group of actors concerning the selection of goals and the means of achieving them”
Plethora of problems abound in every society. It is incumbent on the political executive to address such problems through Allocative or Structural policies, as the case may be.
According to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), Regulatory policy is about achieving government’s objectives through the use of regulations, law and other instruments to develop a better economic and social outcomes and thus enhance the life of citizens and business.
Recently, the price of commodities have skyrocketed in Nigeria due to fuel subsidy removal. Nigerians are facing untold hardship on a daily basis because of the sudden announcement of fuel subsidy removal by President Tinubu on May, 29, 2023.
Although a lot of measures have been put in place to ameliorate the situation, yet, the hike in food prices is nothing to write home about.
Akwa Ibomites were excited when Governor Umo Eno announced plans to set up a State Bulk Purchasing Agency, to mitigate increasing food prices, thereby making foodstuff available and affordable to all.
Pastor Eno backed up his vision with action by sending an Executive Bill to Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly for the establishment of State Bulk Purchasing Agency. The bill has scaled second reading.
State Bulk Purchasing Agency is an excellent initiative by the Governor.
It is also pertinent to point out that, Agricultural revolution remains the first aspiration of the Governor’s A.R.I.S.E Agenda. The objective of the Agricultural revolution is to “achieve food security and sufficiency as well as ensuring improved nutrition” as stated in his Blueprint for Economic Consolidation and Expansion.
Governor Umo Eno is compassionate and people-centric in his approach. He is putting in work to achieve a sustainable economic growth.
His emphasis on this initiative demonstrates a pragmatic and people-centric approach to fostering economic resilience, and ensuring the well-being of the Akwa Ibomites.
The foresight in implementing this plan reflects a comprehensive strategy aimed at fostering economic growth and improving livelihoods. It will create a conducive environment for small businesses, promote stability and encourage investment.
Therefore, this forward – thinking approach underscores his commitment to holistic conscious governance, setting the stage for a balanced and sustainable economic future for the State.
