My Dream Is To Restore Past Glory Of Police Force — IGP Egbetokun

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun has declared that he wants the lost glory of the Nigeria Police Force restored for effective and efficient service delivery.

The IGP added that his major focus is to strengthen the security architecture of the Force and fostering a safer environment for all Nigerians wherever they are.

Egbetokun was speaking on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at the Bauchi State Police Command Headquarters when he addressed Officers and Men of the Command during his official visit to the state.

According to him, “We want you to wear this Uniform and be proud that you are wearing your uniform; we will do everything possible to restore the past glory of the Police.

“That is the kind of Police we want, and we will get there once we are able to do the right thing — Once you serve the people very well the way you are doing in Bauchi state.”

The IGP added that such glory can only be attained through training and retraining adding that “gaining the trust, respect and prayers of Nigerians thereby making you proud Officers and Men of the Nigeria Police Force.”

While he gave an illustration of the kind of Policemen that should be produced under his watch, he said that, “We want a Police Force that will be so well positioned to respond appropriately and adequately to the dynamics of crimes and criminalities in our community.

“We cannot have that Police Force without training; we won’t be professional if we are not trained.

“Therefore, the new police leadership is committed to training our police officers and men; from now on every police officer will be expected to undergo at least one week training within a year.”

Speaking earlier, the State Commissioner of Police, Auwal Musa Muhammad highlighted the achievements of the Command but requested for drones to help them in achieving more feats.

The Commissioner stressed that, “Part of our challenges is inadequate supply of technological/technical such as drones for scientific tracking location of criminal hideous in the forests, swampy and mountainous terrains.

“Sir, there is the need to make use of drones to upgrade our security architecture and operational assault.”

The CP further attributed the success story of peace in the state to the support of the State Governor and synergy with other security agencies including the quasi security outfits.
