Suspected Ritualists Kill Young Lady, Remove Her Body Parts In Akwa Ibom

The student community of Ekpri Nsukara, one of the adjoining communities hosting the University of Uyo (UNIUYO) main campus along Nwaniba road, Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, has been thrown into mourning following the gruesome murder of a young lady.

LEADERSHIP reports that the deceased’s decapitated body, without the upper abdomen, was discovered tucked in a ‘Ghana – Must – Go’ bag and dumped at the entrance to the Boys’ School around the Anua area of the town by her assailants.

Comrade Emmanuel Ekong, a shocked student of UNIUYO, who spoke to LEADERSHIP, could not ascertain whether the deceased was a student of the institution because of her dismembered remains.

“We woke up this early Monday morning to discover the trunk of a young lady inside a ‘Ghana – Must – Go’ bag, chopped off from the waist and the other part of the body from the waist to the head taken away by her killers. So, we can’t really identify whether she’s our fellow student; maybe later,” Ekong noted.

“Early this morning, a female’s body parts were found slaughtered and dumped in a ‘Ghana – Must – Go’ bag at the entrance to the Boys’ School, Anua, Nwaniba Road Uyo, just before the Ekpri Nsukara junction. It’s pathetic that people could resort to this level of barbarism against a fellow human, no matter the offense she might have committed,” another student, Nseobong Idiong, lamented.

Calling on security agencies to go the extra mile to unravel those he described as “the merchants of death,” Comrade Ifiok Bassey, a youth activist, urged Governor Umo to intervene by impressing upon security agencies to stop the ugly trend, recalling that “last week, a young lady was beheaded and her headless body dumped in a farmland by the UdoUdoma Banking Layout, Uyo.

“And now this has happened again in similar fashion. The police detachments have come to this scene like three times, and there’s every likelihood nothing serious will be done to fish out and bring the perpetrators to book.

“Akwa Ibom state has been touted as one of the cleanest and most security-conscious states in the last couple of years, yet these kinds of ugly developments keep denting the state’s image which have rubbed off negatively on the destination state of tourism and Foreign Direct Investments (FDIs) hub the Governor is trying to sustain,” he stressed.

However, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Odiko MacDon, while responding to the complaints raised by concerned residents on the latest incident, vowed to investigate, assuring that no stone would be left unturned in apprehending and bringing the culprits to justice as the Commissioner of Police (CP) Olatoye Durosinmi, has zero tolerance for crimes.

“We will look into it,” he assured. (Leadership)
