The Rivers State House of Assembly has barred Governor Siminalayi Fubara from removing or appointing a replacement for Dr Sam Nwanosike, the chairman of Ikwere Local Government Area who recently publicly called the governor foolish.
The legislators’ protection of Dr Nwanosike came as they rejected his veto of the law in which the governor’s right to appoint a caretaker committee was rejected.
GWG.ng reports that the lawmakers on Friday overrode the governor’s veto on the law and with it he is compelled to conduct a local government election which is due within the next three months.
GWG.ng further reports that with the action, Dr Nwanosike, a staunch loyalist of Nyesom Wike is not only protected from being removed, but also could avail himself for another term in office.
Dr Nwanosike came to national renown a week ago when during a public event he called Fubara a foolish governor.
“Today, Fubara is a foolish governor, he is not a mumu governor, he is a foolish governor,” Nwanosike had said in upbraiding the incumbent governor.
It would be recalled that Fubara had vetoed the bill but the lawmakers overwhelmingly voted against Governor Fubara’s veto last Friday.
With the development Fubara is barred from exercising the power enjoyed by his predecessor, Nyesom Wike and will be compelled to conduct an election at the expiration of the tenure of Nwanosike and other local government executives.
