The Parliament of Namibia is hosting a meeting of the Budget Committee of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Africa Region in Windhoek, Namibia from 23 to 26 January 2024.

Participating in the 4-day meeting is the Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Inter-Parliamentary Relations and member representing Uyo/Uruan/Nsit Atai/Ibesikpo Asutan Federal Constituency in the 10th House of Representatives of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Rep. Mark Udo Esset.

Members of Parliament belonging to the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Africa Region Budget Committee led by its Treasurer, Speaker of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature in South South, Hon. Ntombi Mekgwe, paid a courtesy visit on the Speaker of the National Assembly of Namibia, Hon. Prof. Peter Katjavivi.

The Budget Committee is saddled with the responsibility of organizing, facilitating and formulating recommendations for the Association’s financial investments.

The committee meeting is convening delegates from the following Member States: Botswana, Mauritius, Nigeria, South Africa and Tanzania. CPA Africa Region consists of 63 national and subnational legislatures.

Hon. Lukas Sinimbo Muha, Chairperson of the National Council of Namibia, will formally open the meeting which he currently serves as the CPA Africa Executive Committee’s Vice-Chairperson.

Later, the Committee made a tour to the Meat Corporation of Namibia (Meatco) – a meat processing and meat marketing entity were Rep. Mark Esset seized the opportunity to discuss with the CEO of Meatco, Mushokabanji Musho on the possible ways of collaboration between Nigeria and Namibia in meat processing and marketing.

The CPA Africa Region aims to promote and protect the interests and perspectives of CPA Africa Regional Parliaments and countries, into the Commonwealth and beyond.

In addition, it promotes gender equality, the emancipation of women, and respect for human rights, freedoms, democracy, and good governance.
