Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Yemi Alade thrilled fans with her performance at the opening ceremony of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
The singer had first taken to social media to celebrate the dream come true on her official X handle.
“Since 2016, I have envisioned performing at the stadium for football ceremonies surrounded by hundreds of dancers and people.
“Seven years later, I’m performing at AFCON. It is indeed an honour and a dream come true. It’s just the beginning,” she said.
The Nigerian singer performed alongside other artistes from Africa to perform the theme song of the 2023 AFCON ‘Akwaba,’ which means welcome in the Baoule language in Ivory Coast.
The rendition of the 2023 AFCON anthem also featured legendary Ivorian group, Magic System and Egyptian singer, Mohamed Ramadan.
Alade shined on the stage in the middle of the football pitch at the 60,000-capacity stadium delivering thrilling notes for the fans.
