A 55-year-old man, Yau Ibrahim from Kundu village in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State has been sentenced to life imprisonment for sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl by a Senior Magistrates Court in Minna.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Aliyu Yakubu Kuta, said that the suspect had lured the victim who was in primary 1 into his room on August 3, 2023 and sexually assaulted her.

Kuta said that the incident was reported by the victim’s father, Abdullahi Dauda, saying that the victim suffered severe injuries to her private parts which resulted in significant bleeding.

During the trial, two witnesses provided testimony, and two exhibits were presented, including the defendant’s confession and a medical report from the Police clinic in Minna detailing the victim’s health condition.

The Judge, Hafsat Abdullahi Bawa Wuse, who delivered the judgment after considering the convict’s plea for leniency, the magnitude of the offense, the victim’s current state of health, and the convict’s admission of infecting the girl with sexually transmitted diseases sentenced the accused to life imprisonment.

According to her, the evidence on ground and testimonials warranted the maximum penalty.

The judge disclosed that the victim’s medical report confirmed the presence of STDs, which the convict had confessed to transmitting.
