United States (US) and United Kingdom (UK) forces carried out air strikes against Houthi rebel targets in Yemen.

US forces and its allies struck more than 60 targets at 16 locations used by Houthi rebels in Yemen, the US Air Force said.

These include command and control nodes, munitions depots, launching systems, production facilities and air defence radar systems, it said in a statement late on Thursday.

More than 100 precision-guided munitions were used in the strikes.

“We remain committed to our critical partners throughout the Middle East to defend against Iranian-backed militia groups, including Houthi militants, and the threat they pose to regional security and stability,” said US Air Force Central Commander Lt. Gen. Alex Grynkewich.

Meanwhile, Russia has requested an urgent UN Security Council meeting today, Friday in connection with the US-UK strikes on Yemen, the Russian Permanent Mission to the UN says.

The mission told Russia’s Tass news agency the meeting was scheduled for 10:00 in New York (15:00 GMT).
