Dr. Samuel Udonsak, National President of the Ekid People’s Union (EPU), has leveled serious accusations against BUA International Limited, alleging the company of illegal occupation and unauthorized mining of Ilmenite in the Stubbs Creek Forest Reserve in Akwa Ibom State.
During the EPU’s annual congress, Udonsak shed light on the legal foundation that underpins the Ekid people’s claim to the land.
He pointed out to the attendees the 1930 Stubbs Creek Reserve Ordinance and the 1918 Privy Court judgment.
The inference was clear: any de-reservation of the forest should benefit the Ekid people, and not private entities.
