10-Man Wolves Snatch Draw Against Brentford In Cup Clash

Wolverhampton Wanderers earned a 1-1 draw away at Brentford on Saturday, despite being reduced to 10 men in the early stages of the FA Cup third-round clash. Joao Gomes was shown a straight red card in the ninth minute for a dangerous tackle on Brentford captain Christian Norgaard, who was forced off injured.

The hosts made their man advantage count on 41 minutes when Neal Maupay clinically finished after Wolves failed to clear a free kick. However, Wolves rallied in the second half and equalised out of nowhere in the 64th minute through a sweetly struck long-range effort from Tommy Doyle, his first goal for the club.

In this feisty cup tie, Wolves had strong appeals for a red card waved away when Mikkel Damsgaard caught Doyle late. Chances came at both ends late on, but ultimately the numerical disadvantage proved too much for Brentford to find a winner.

The 1-1 draw sets up a replay at Molineux in just over a week’s time to decide who progresses to the FA Cup fourth round. Based on the frantic finale, there is clearly no love lost between these two sides who met in the League only nine days ago.

Wolves will be relieved to remain in the hat after a battling display, while Brentford must pick themselves up and go again in the replay.
