The Kano Police Command on Wednesday said it has arrested a quack doctor, Chidera Ugwu and one other, Ukasha Muhammed for injecting a pregnant lady, Amina Balarabe to death.
Confirming the development, the Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel, explained that Ukasha Muhammed had impregnated Amina Balarabe and took her to the quack doctor with the intent to terminate the pregnancy she had for him.
CP Gumel in a statement by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna, said the suspects had since confessed to the crime.
The Police Commissioner who described the arrest of the quack doctor as a breakthrough said further investigation by the command revealed that he has allegedly been administering fatal injections to pregnant women, leading to tragic consequences.
He said: “On 20/12/2023 at about 1030hrs, report was received from one Nura Balarabe, ‘m’, of Tofa LGA Kano that one Ukasha Muhammed, aged 19 years, ‘m’, of Langel Village Tofa LGA Kano Impregnated his sister, Amina Bala, aged 19 years, ‘f’ of Kwanar Mahuwa Tofa LGA Kano and the said Ukasha Muhammad conspired with one Chidera Ugwu, aged 24 years, ‘m’ of Lanbum Banki Tofa LGA Kano and administered injections and drugs to the said Amina Balarabe with intent to cause miscarriage which resulted to her death.
“The suspects were arrested and confessed to the crime. Investigations revealed that the said Chidera Ugwu has allegedly been administering fatal injections to pregnant women, leading to tragic consequences.
“The arrest of the Quack Doctor signifies a significant breakthrough in our ongoing efforts to safeguard the lives and well-being of all the residents in the State,” he added.
