Ibom Power Plant: Akwa Ibom Govt, SAVANNAH Energy Sign MoU

In his focused and determined efforts to appropriate the full benefits of the State-owned Ibom Power Plant, Governor Umo Eno, on Tuesday, played host to officials of Savannah Energy, led by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Engineer Pade Durotoye, at the Government House, Uyo.

The meeting was to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the reputable energy company and the Akwa Ibom State Government, to conduct a technical audit of the Ibom Power Plant aimed at repositioning the power plant to operate optimally.

According to the release issued by the Media Unit of the Govt. House, Uyo, and made available to THEWILL, the signing of the MoU is a fulfilment of the promise the Governor had made during his tour of the plant, a few weeks after assuming office.

The Governor, during the visit, expressed concern about the state of affairs at the power plant and promised to ensure that he would do everything possible to make sure the plant works smoothly for the benefit of the good people of Akwa Ibom State. “I am aware of the huge resources past administrations have injected into making this power facility work; we need to redouble our efforts in ensuring that all that is needed to make it work, is explored.”

Speaking during the signing of the MoU, the Governor again emphasised the importance of the power sector in the growth of any society. “Power is everything, it drives development, ensures a better quality of life and is the engine of growth for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). We are determined to continue the great works in the power sector and ensure that, working with stakeholders such as Savannah Energy, we will take full advantage of the resources we have expended in the Ibom Power Plant and make it work for our people.”

Also present at the event were the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Uko Udom (SAN), Commissioner for Power, Engr Camillus Umoh, MD/CEO of AKICORP, Pastor ImoAbasi Jacob, Chairman of Ibom Power Plant, Engineer Etido Inyang and the MD, Engineer Meyen Etukudo, among others.
