The Uyo Capital City Development Authority today made an unscheduled visit to the ongoing construction of the permanent venue for the yearly Christmas Carol festival at the Christmas Park.

The Authority’s team led by the Executive Chairman, Rt. Hon. Anietie was received by the handlers of the construction work.

Speaking with newsmen shortly after the inspection visit, the Chairman said the visit was part of his first line activities as he assumes office.

He commended the vision of Governor Umo Eno in the building of the Christmas Park, noting that apart from boosting the leisure and relaxation which the place is primarily meant for, the innovation will boost tourism and economic activities in the State in addition to Christmas celebration which the state is known for globally.

“Our coming here today was to access the construction work that is ongoing here. From what we are seeing here, there is no cause for alarm. There’s nothing wrong with what is being built here. It has not tampered with the green area because the size of the land taken for the construction is too small to affect the green area.

I must commend the Governor for the vision having understood the concept and significant of the Christmas Park as well as the economic gains. This is part of the vision of the Governor as contained in his ARISE Agenda and we must give him optimum support to actualize his lofty ideas and programme for the growth and development of the state.

Ours is to see to it that both government and the general public abide by the provisions of the Capital City Master plan which is aimed at providing a smart, beautiful and healthy environment in the Capital City as it is obtainable in other advance cities such as the Kigali.”

It could be recalled that the Chairman had upon his assumption of office reiterated his commitment to actualize the core mandate of the Uyo Capital City Development Authority, declaring that his administration is poised to stick to the standard planning of the capital city.

Meanwhile, the Chairman had earlier before the unscheduled visit to the Christmas Park paid a courtesy call on the village Head of Atan Offot, Eteidung Idongesit Frank to officially notify him of his assumption of office and seek his royal blessings.

Rt Hon Eka, who was accompanied on the visit by the Secretary of the Authority, Anietie Akpan and other Directors said it was imperative to show respect to whom respect is due by visiting the Eteidung, who is the custodian of culture and tradition in Atan Offot, the host community of the UCCDA office complex.

He lauded the Village Head particularly for the peaceful ambience of Atan Offot village which he said has given room for development in the area, citing UCCDA office, the PDP secretariat, Immigration, Prison office complexes etc and added that it’s a demonstration of peace and hospitality the area is known for.

The former law Maker said he will build on the foundation laid by the SSG, Otuekong Prince Enobong Uwah, who was the former Chairman of UCCDA noting that Prince Uwah did a marvelous job in building the Agency a Permanent Office Complex.

Responding, Eteidung Frank, thanked God for making the visit possible. He commended the Chairman for the honour accorded him for deeming it fit to pay him a courtesy visit in his Palace.
