…assures traditional rulers of govt’s support
Governor Umo Eno, on Monday, unveiled the new state-of-the-art Essien Udim Traditional Rulers Complex, solidifying his commitment to the welfare of Akwa Ibom Traditional Rulers and the preservation of the traditional institution.
The complex, named after Akwa Akuku 1 of Annangland and Paramount Ruler of Essien Udim LGA, His Eminence Obong Cosmas Akpan, KSJI, stands as a testament to the enduring of this revered figure.
Represented by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr Frank Archibong, the governor assured the traditional rulers of the government’s unwavering support for the traditional institution in the state.
“This is the first time in the last ten years that any Chairman will put up such a significant, bold and beautiful edifice for the traditional rulers and I commend the Chairman of Essien Udim LGA for this because, if there is anything the traditional rulers need, it is a convivial place to sit and meet and take decisions that will urgur well for the communities.
“Through this building, we will achieve peace, through this building, we will achieve security, through this building, the chiefs will be able to sit, discuss and propose things that will bring development and prosperity to Essien Udim. This building is very significant, and I am very happy and proud to be a part of this history”, he stated.
While he recognized their pivotal role as custodians of culture and tradition, the governor emphasized the need for an enabling environment that empowers them to maintain law and order within their domains, contributing to the critical component of effective security in the state’s ARISE Agenda.
Governor Eno reaffirmed his determination to ensure that every local government area in Akwa Ibom benefits from projects with direct impact on the lives of the people.
The conception and location of the Essien Udim TRC complex were driven by the needs assessment of the local community, a testament to the government’s commitment to grassroots development.
The Governor commended the people of Essien Udim for their warm hospitality and unwavering support.
In his remark, Prince Ukpong Akpabio II, the Member representing Essien Udim in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, expressed his gratitude to the Chairman of Essien Udim local government area, Mr. Anthony Luke, for constructing a befitting secretariat for the Traditional Rulers.
Akpabio hailed the project as a significant signature of the Anthony Luke administration, destined to stand the test of time.
Chairman Anthony Luke, in his address, said the edifice has eight offices, all en suite, with offices for clan heads, adding that the building was designed to ensure that traditional rulers, including clan heads, village heads and family heads have a befitting secretariat that befits their royal status.
Luke extended his appreciation to former Governor Udom Emmanuel and Governor Umo Eno for their support, which has fostered peace and security in the area.
Luke highlighted that the construction and commissioning of the TRC complex fulfilled one of his campaign promises to the traditional institution in Essien Udim.
Dr. Luke acknowledged the support and solidarity of all stakeholders and assured them that the complex would provide the necessary environment for traditional rulers to carry out their duties effectively.
Luke expressed his gratitude to Governor Eno for his belief in him and his unwavering support for the people of Essien Udim, even as he pledged the continued support of the community to Governor Eno’s ARISE Agenda, ensuring the prosperity of Essien Udim and the state as a whole.
